Doubles Run For Elliott, Blekhman Highlights Lehigh Effort At ITA Regionals

PHILADELPHIA – A strong run through the doubles draw for senior Zack Elliott and freshman Marc Blekhman highlighted the performance of the Lehigh men's tennis team at ITA Regionals at Penn's Hamlin/Hecht Tennis Centers.
A total of five Mountain Hawks on the weekend, with Elliott and Blekhman winning three matches to reach the quarterfinals of the main doubles draw. The duo began with an 8-6 victory over a team from Dartmouth and then earned an injury walkover victory over a team from Penn. On Saturday, the duo posted an 8-5 win over Augustine Suarez and Matt Nardone from Siena in the round of 16 to reach the quarterfinals. Elliott and Blekhman's run came to an end Sunday with an 8-3 loss to Brian Shi and Daniel Milavsky of Harvard.
Lehigh's second doubles team, featuring juniors Matt Kleiman and Jeremy Learner, won two matches Thursday in the qualifying draw to reach the main draw. Kleiman and Learner dropped their first round main draw match to a team from Cornell.
Elliott, Blekhman, Kleiman and sophomore Jordan Paul participated in singles action. Blekhman posted the only main draw victory, opening with a 1-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Niagara's Trevor Masi. Elliott lost a tough three set match to David Lins of Harvard with the first and third sets decided in tiebreaks.
Paul won his first match in the qualifying draw against Peter Hatton of Army, while Kleiman dropped his first round match in the qualifiers.
