Bethlehem, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team claimed a 2020 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) All-Academic Team award and seven student-athletes from the team were named ITA-Scholar Athletes, as announced by the ITA earlier in the week. Overall, 244 women's programs were awarded All-Academic Team distinction, while 1,430 women student-athletes were named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
"This is a well-deserved honor for all of our student-athletes who fully committed themselves to achieving such a high level of academic excellence. I am very proud of our team." said head coach Sarah Hendrix.
As a team, the Brown and White compiled a GPA of 3.58, while Sibel Can, Paula Gonzalez, Ella Imhof, Junmoke James, Catherine Meighan, Anshika Singh and Casey Zhong all earned the honor of being named an ITA Scholar-Athlete.
The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team GPA of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale). All varsity letter winners should be factored into the cumulative team GPA for the current academic year.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner; 2.) have a GPA of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year; 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least two semesters (including freshman through senior year).
Just a month ago, the Mountain Hawks had seven athletes named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. It was the second consecutive season in which the Brown and White had seven representatives.
The Mountain Hawks had their season cut short in mid-March due to COVID-19. Lehigh was 6-6 at the moment and was just ready to begin Patriot League play. The Brown and White jumped out to a 5-2 start with impressive wins over Stony Brook, Siena and Duquesne.
