Lehigh drops its first match of the season to Villanova on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team (3-1) suffered its first defeat of the season on Saturday. After an impressive 3-0 start to their season, the Villanova Wildcats dropped the Mountain Hawks, 6-1.
In doubles, the Wildcats took the doubles point from the Brown and White. The No. 2 and No. 3 teams of Lehigh suffered defeats. The first doubles pairs did not finish their matches.
In singles, Casey Zhong won the lone Lehigh match on the day. In the No. 5 spot, Zhong defeated Carina Burdick, 8-4.
Despite not picking up another win on the day, the Mountain Hawks fought hard and almost won other matches. In the No. 1 spot, Sibel Can dropped a tough bout to Lindsay Zimmerman, 7-5, 6-4. In the No. 2 spot, Paula Gonzalez suffered her first defeat of the season thanks to Claudia Althans, 6-3, 2-6.
The mighty Lehigh freshman duo of Junmoke James and Ella Imhof dropped their first singles and doubles matches of the year. Entering today, the duo was a combined 6-0 in singles, while entering 3-0 in doubles.
The Mountain Hawks return to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center next weekend. On Saturday, Lehigh welcomes in Stony Brook for a 2:00 p.m. match, while then hosting the Drexel Dragons at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
