Mountain Hawks take down the Seawolves to improve to 4-1 on the season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team rebounded from its first loss of the season with a win on Saturday at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks (4-1) defeated the Stony Brook Seawolves, 4-3. With the win, Lehigh adds to its early season success. It was the 2005 season in which Lehigh last started this well.
Things started off a bit shaky for the Brown and White on Saturday. Stony Brook obtained the doubles point after capturing two wins. The freshmen pair of Ella Imhof and Junmoke James battled to a 6-3 defeat.
Despite falling behind early, the Mountain Hawks remained focused and kept clawing away the Seawolves. Lehigh fought past its early deficit and rebounded by winning four of the six singles matches.
In the top two singles spots, Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez proved why they are at the top for Lehigh, as both women won in straight sets against their opponents. At the top spot, Can defeated Stony Brook's Jamie Wei, 6-2, 6-2, while Gonzalez registered a hard-fought win, 6-2, 7-6 (4).
In the No. 4 spot, the freshman Imhof successfully took down her opponent in a classic three-setter. After taking the first set, Imhof dropped the second set but then obtained the third set to win, 7-6 (2), 3-6, 6-4. In the No. 5 spot, Casey Zhong remained perfect on the season. Moving to 5-0 on the year, Zhong won again, dominating her opponent in straight sets, 6-4, 6-2.
Lehigh will have to rest now and await Drexel's arrival for tomorrow's showdown. The 4-1 Mountain Hawks and the Dragons will begin play at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
