Women's Tennis hosts Stony Brook and Drexel this weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Looking to put its first loss of the season behind them, the Lehigh women's tennis team (3-1) will look to regroup this weekend, as the Mountain Hawks will host two matches this weekend. First, the Brown and White will battle the Stony Brook Seawolves on Saturday at 2:00 p.m., while then hosting the Drexel Dragons at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. Both of these matches will be held inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.

Lehigh's 3-1 start to the season is its best start since the 2005 season, a season in which the Brown and White started 6-1.

LAST TIME OUT
Lehigh dropped its first match of the season to the Villanova Wildcats, 6-1. In that match, Lehigh fell behind early, as Villanova managed to win two close doubles matches for the point. Casey Zhong recorded the lone win in singles for the Brown and White. Competing in the No. 5 spot, Zhong defeated Carina Burdick, 8-4.

CAPABLE CASEY
One thing that Lehigh has going for them this year is its depth. Having a one-two punch of Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez in the top two spots is a dominant force. Then at the three and four spots, the freshmen Junmoke James and Ella Imhof offer a huge bright spot. Then comes Casey Zhong. The junior is a perfect 4-0 in singles play, which leads the team. Also, Zhong has tallied two wins in doubles this year. If the junior can give the Brown and White this kind of production all year, Lehigh will be capable of knocking off the top Patriot League teams.

SCOUTING STONY BROOK
The Seawolves come into Bethlehem with an 0-2 mark. So far this season, Stony Brook has suffered close defeats to Fordham and Army West Point. Against the Black Knights, The Burgundy and Blue lost, 4-3. Stony Brook's top player is Jamie Wei. At the No. 1 spot, Wei is 15-3 combined through the fall and the spring. At the No. 2 spot, Nolwenn Cardoso is 9-4.

SCOUTING DREXEL
The Dragons are an impressive 4-1 on the season. Drexel has already secured wins over Seton Hall, Georgetown and Temple. Salma Ziouti is 3-0 in spring play at the No.1 spot, while Sarka Richterova and Mya Fuentes are both 4-0 in the No. 3 and No. 4 spot. Before coming to Bethlehem, Drexel will play at UCONN on Thursday.

PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Lehigh fell to both schools last year. Drexel topped Lehigh, 5-1, while Stony Brook came into the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center and departed with a 6-1 win.

UP NEXT
After this weekend's play against Stony Brook and Drexel, Lehigh will again be at home next Saturday. The Brown and White will welcome in the Duquesne Dukes for a 1:00 p.m. matinee
