BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team suffered a tough defeat on Saturday, as the Buffalo Bulls came into Bethlehem and defeated the Mountain Hawks, 6-1. Today's defeat comes after the Brown and White dropped a match to NJIT yesterday.
The Mountain Hawks (5-4) once again fell behind early with Buffalo taking the doubles point with two wins. The No. 1 pair of Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez did take home a win with a 7-6 victory over the Bulls' top tandem. Despite the win, Lehigh couldn't gather two more wins.
Trailing 1-0, the Mountain Hawks struggled in singles trying to accumulate four wins. Their lone win came at the No. 5 spot, as Casey Zhong continued her tremendous season with another victory. Zhong picked up a straight set win over Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou, 6-3, 6-4.
At the No. 3 spot, freshman Junmoke James fell in heartbreaking fashion, as she dropp two hard-fought sets to Gabriella Akopyan, 7-5, 6-7 (2).
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will head south for warm weather, as the Lehigh women's tennis team will compete in three matches down in Florida. The women will face USF, St. Thomas Aquinas and Wesleyan. The first match against USF is on Sunday, March 8.
