BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Following three straight on the road, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team returns home for the first time since the season opener when the Mountain Hawks host Monmouth Saturday. Gametime is set for 12 p.m. on the Patriot League Network. Lehigh has lost two straight, but both competitive contests against strong competition (Penn State and Vanderbilt). Most recently, the Mountain Hawks came ever-so close to their first-ever win against the Commodores, falling in overtime.
Â
In last Saturday's game, Lehigh trailed 8-4 before scoring eight of the next 11 goals to take a 12-11 lead. Senior Sondra Dickey was a big catalyst, scoring five of the Mountain Hawks' eight goals in the run. Included were three straight Lehigh goals to pull within 11-9. Dickey's third straight started a 4-0 Mountain Hawks' rally, all in the span of 4:45, to take a 12-11 lead following a Maggie Kelly goal. Vanderbilt responded to pull even, then score 2:29 into the extra session, for the 13-12 final.
Â
Dickey is up to 24 points on the season in just four games (21 goals, three assists), scoring at least four goals in every contest. Along with Dickey's five goals, freshman Katia Carnevale had three while Kelly and junior Cecily Redfern each scored twice. It marked Redfern's first-career multi-goal game, while she also added a career-high six draw controls. Freshman Emma Eberhardt dished three assists. Freshman Gabby Schneider and junior Hannah Cermack each had two helpers. Cermack also led the team with two caused turnovers.
Â
Monmouth stands 3-1 on the season, owning wins over Sacred Heart (11-5), LIU (20-13) and Central Connecticut State (18-4), with a loss last time out against Army West Point (12-9). Nicole Ceraso leads the team in points with 21 (11 goals, 10 assists) while Caroline Bleck owns a team-leading 16 goals (and two assists for 18 points). Gina Verrone leads the way with 15 groundballs while Rachel Mills has a team-leading seven caused turnovers (to go with 10 goals and an assist). Steph Delliturri has started all four games in goal, owning an 8.91 goals against average and 45.2 save percentage.
Â
Lehigh trails the all-time series vs. Monmouth, 5-4 with the last meeting coming in 2009. That was a 14-9 Mountain Hawks' victory at home. The last time the teams played at Monmouth was Mar. 16, 2005, a 15-11 Lehigh defeat. Lehigh won the first-ever meeting between the sides, 14-9 on Apr. 29, 1998. Neither team has won more than two straight in the all-time series.
Â
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home on Tuesday (Mar. 3) to host La Salle at 3 p.m.
