BETHLEHEM, Pa. — Coming off its first victory of the 2020 season Sunday at Richmond, the Lehigh baseball team gets back to work this weekend in Sanford, Florida, taking on Pitt and Central Connecticut State for two games each between Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

The Mountain Hawks are 1-5 heading into this weekend's games and ended last weekend on a high note by defeating Richmond, 8-5 in the second game of Sunday's doubleheader.

The offense was led by freshman Adam Retzbach, who hit the first two home runs of his career, while freshman Zack Miles also recorded his first career knock. Senior Matt Hand had a two-RBI double that brought the Mountain Hawks back within striking distance.

Pitching was also top notch throughout the weekend with sophomores Mason Black and Luke Rettig both registering career-highs in strikeouts with nine each.

Sophomore Gerard Sweeney leads the team with a batting average of .304 and three walks, while junior Tyler Schreiner is also batting .304, currently in the middle of a six-game hitting streak to start the season and a reached base streak of 13 games dating back to the end of last season.

Besides the usual suspects on the mound, Lehigh has been fortunate to have a few arms that have dominated out of the bullpen in relief through their first couple appearances. Junior Yash Rane has an ERA of 1.80 in two outings with five strikeouts, while freshman Ryan Deom has a 1.80 ERA in two appearances with six strikeouts and zero walks. Junior Sam Wurth picked up his second career save on Sunday after getting the final four outs of the afternoon.

Pitt enters the weekend with a 6-1 overall record with victories over Indiana State, Saint Joseph's and Iowa in the Snowbird Classic in Port Charlotte the first weekend of the year and then a three-game sweep of Eastern Michigan last weekend in Sanford. The Panthers' only loss of the year so far was a 4-1 defeat to Ohio State.

Riley Wash leads the team with a .412 batting average (7-for-17) with a home run, two doubles and four RBIs, a .765 slugging percentage and an OPS of 1.239. Sky Duff is second with an average of .391, Bryce Hulett third at .381 and David Yanni fourth at .379 in seven games. The Panthers are hitting .305 as a team at the plate with 76 hits in seven games, 52 runs scored, 23 doubles and five home runs.

On the mound, Pitt is led by Matt Gilbertson, who has a 0.00 ERA in two starts with nine strikeouts, five runs allowed, none earned over 15 hits in 14 innings. He also hasn't given up a single walk so far. Billy Corcoran has a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings over two starts so far this season with 17 strikeouts and just two walks. Adam Bloebaum (0.00 ERA) and Chase Smith (1.50) each have registered a save for the Panthers in 2020.

The Mountain Hawks are 2-5-1 all-time against Pitt dating all the way back to 1908. The last time these two teams faced was in 2007, a 10-4 victory for the Panthers on Mar. 9.

CCSU had a dream season in 2019, winning the NEC Championship and getting an NCAA Regional victory over California in the Fayetteville Regional before getting knocked out by TCU.

The Blue Devils are 2-1 to open the 2020 campaign, taking two out of three games over Bethune-Cookman last weekend on the road.
Overall, CCSU's bats have been relatively quiet with Jake Siracusa leading the charge with a .222 batting average in three games with two hits and two walks. Chandler Debrosse is second at .182 with two hits, including one triple, a walk and an RBI.

In their final game of the weekend, Anthony Mozzicato tossed a seven-inning shutout in his Blue Devil debut, earning his first career victory.

Lehigh is 0-2 all-time against Central Connecticut State, losing both during the 1996 campaign.

Friday's matchup is set for 1 p.m. from Sanford, with live stats provided. Lehigh will take on CCSU Saturday morning at 11 a.m. and Pitt Saturday at 3 p.m. before concluding the weekend with a 9 a.m. game against the Blue Devils Sunday morning.
