Mountain Hawks look to get back in the win column on Saturday against Villanova

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Looking to rebound from its first loss of the season, the Lehigh men's tennis team (2-1) will embark on its first road trip of the season. This weekend, Lehigh will play at Villanova on Saturday at 6:00 p.m., while then traveling to face the Delaware Blue Hens at 4:30 p.m.
 
With a win on Friday, Lehigh will be 3-1 on the season. The last time Lehigh started 3-1 in a season came back in 2018, as the Mountain Hawks started 5-1 that year.
 
LAST TIME OUT
The Brown and White dropped their first match of the season, a back-and-forth contest to Drexel, 4-3. Lehigh started well, managing to obtain the doubles point. However, the men couldn't muster together three wins in singles. Zack Elliott and Gary Fishkin tallied the only wins in singles for Lehigh.
 
ELECTRIC ELLIOTT
Announced on Tuesday, Sophomore Zack Elliott was tabbed Patriot League Player of the Week. This is the third straight week in which Elliott as recognized for his play. Before this honor, the sophomore was tabbed honorable mention in back-to-back weeks, but his on Saturday over Drexel's Sanil Jagtiani lifted him past the honorable mention. Elliott defeated Jagtiana in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2. The sophomore is 3-0 in singles this year.
 
SCOUTING VILLANOVA
The Wildcats are currently 2-1 on the season. Villanova's wins has come against UCONN and Coppin State. Their lone hiccup came against Delaware, a Delaware team that Lehigh will meet on Sunday. Stefan Suarez is 2-1 at the top spot in singles, while Tyler Roth is a perfect 3-0 at the No. 2 spot. Villanova will compete against Drexel on Friday before hosting Lehigh.
 
SCOUTING DELAWARE
The Blue Hens are off to their best start since 2000. In its last match, Delaware blanked Coppin State, 7-0. The Blue Hens will meet Lehigh on Sunday with a 6-1 record, already defeating Bucknell, Villanova, UCONN and Fairleigh Dickinson. James Wilkinson is 4-1 in the top spot in singles, while Luis Molina is 5-1 at the No. 2 spot. Guilherme Valdoleiros is 4-1 at the No.3 spot. In doubles, Liam Hedlund and Wlinson are 4-1.
 
PREVIOUS MEETINGS
Last year, Lehigh fell to Villanova in its season-opening match, 6-1. The last time Lehigh and Delaware squared off came in 2017. In that meeting, the Mountain Hawks topped the Blue Hens, 5-2.
 
UP NEXT
After this two-match road trip, Lehigh will return to the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center for a match against the Duquesne Dukes on February 22. The action for that match is scheduled to begin at 5:00 p.m.
