
Mountain Hawks fall in both matches this weekend

WILMINGTON, DEL. – The Lehigh men's tennis team dropped its third straight match on Sunday, as the Delaware Blue Hens defeated the Mountain Hawks by a 5-2 score. Competing on back-to-back days, Lehigh came into today after dropping a heartbreaking defeat to Villanova last night, 4-3.
Today against Delaware, both teams competed in competitive doubles matches. All three matches for the doubles point scored, 7-6. The bad news for Lehigh fans was that the Blue Hens took two of the three matches. At the No. 1 spot, Zack Elliott and Harry Wang defeated Delaware's James Wilkinson and Liam Hedlund, 7-6 (7-5).
In singles, Wang then followed his close doubles win by securing the win at the No. 2 spot. Wang defeated Luis Molina in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4. At the No. 6 spot, Jeremy Learner tallied his first win of the season. Milo Nagle, his opponent had to retire halfway through their match.
At the No. 4 spot, things were looking up for Jacob Edelchik. The junior took the first set from Delaware's Justice Jones, 6-3. After dropping the second set, Edelchik was forced to retire in the deciding third set.
The Mountain Hawks weren't able to overcome the devastating loss in doubles.
On Saturday at Villanova, the Mountain Hawks kicked-off their road trip with a back-and-forth battle with the Wildcats. Ultimately, Villanova managed to squeak out with a 4-3 win. After the match, coach Wouter Hendrix described the loss as brutal.
In doubles, the Mountain Hawks once again started from behind, as the Wildcats of Villanova managed to win two matches to obtain the doubles point.
In singles, Lehigh battled to the finish but couldn't muster together four wins. They did however manage to secure three wins in singles.
At the No. 1 spot, Zack Elliott showed why he's been getting recognition from the Patriot League, as the sophomore showed grit and determination in his match. Despite dropping the first set, Elliott recovered and won the next two sets to take the win, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3.
Jacob Edelchik and Jack Martin-Dyer also managed to obtain victories against the Wildcats on Saturday. At the No. 4 spot, Edelchik started the same way as Elliott. The junior dropped the first set but executed late to win the next two sets to get the win, 3-6, 6-1, 7-5. Martin-Dyer then won in the No. 6 spot in straight sets over Justin Suarez, 6-1, 6-4.
The Mountain Hawks will look to snap their skid next Saturday, as Lehigh plays host to the Duquesne Dukes at 5:00 p.m.
