Women's Tennis picks up season-opening win over Saint Francis

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team began the 2020 regular season with a 7-0 home victory over the Saint Francis Red Flash on Saturday.
Competing at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center, the Mountain Hawks (1-0) won all nine matches that were played between the two teams. The Brown and White started the day bv sweeping all three doubles matches.
With the win, Lehigh has now had back-to-back seasons in which they have captured a season-opening win.
The No. 1 doubles pair of Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez began the morning with 6-1 win, and the No.2 doubles tandem of freshmen Junmoke James and Ella Imhof also picked up the 6-1 win. Casey Zhong and Leigh Friedman easily defeated the Red Flash in No. 3 with a 6-0 win
In singles, all six women won their matches, and the Brown and White showed they have plenty to be excited about this season. In the first two matches, Can and Gonzalez both won their respective matches in straight sets. James and Imhof, the two freshmen had to battle for their victories. Both ladies earned wins in exciting three-setters.
Closing the afternoon, No. 6 Catherine Meighan picked up a dominating win in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 5 spot, Zhong also won in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will host the Siena Saints next Saturday at 1:00 p.m. inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
