Women's Tennis Improves to 2-0 after win over Siena

BETHLEHEM, Pa. — The Lehigh women's tennis team (2-0) remains undefeated in the 2020 regular season after defeating Siena 5-2 at home on Saturday.
Lehigh swept all three doubles matches for the second consecutive week and lost only twice in singles. The No. 1 doubles pair of Sibel Can and Paula Gonzalez set the tone early for the Mountain Hawks with a seamless 6-1 win. The No. 2 doubles pair of Junmoke James and Ella Imhof similarly dominated this morning with a 6-2 win. Casey Zhong and Leigh Friedman battled their way to earn a 6-4 win to secure the sweep for the Mountain Hawks.
Gonzalez and Imhof dominated in singles, each winning in straight sets. James also proved herself on the court after bouncing back from a 1-6 loss in the first set to win 6-4 and 6-0, respectively, in the remaining sets. Zhong pushed herself for an extra set to come out on top in an 8-6 victory.
Despite losing in singles for the first time this season, Can and Meighan showed that they will be huge contributors moving forward. Meighan lost 6-8 in an intense battle, while Can was unable to come back from a 1-6 loss in the first set but cut the deficit to 6-7 in the next set.
The Mountain Hawks will look to extend their winning streak tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. against the Marist Foxes inside the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
