Cooper named Academic All-Patriot League for third straight season

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh men's tennis senior George Cooper has been named to the Academic All-Patriot League team announced Wednesday. This is the third consecutive year that Cooper has earned Academic All-League recognition.
Cooper owns a 3.84 cumulative grade point average in an integrated computer science and business program, the second-best GPA on the Lehigh men's tennis team. He is a three-time member of the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and has made Lehigh's Dean's List with a GPA better than 3.60 in each of his first seven semesters. Cooper won the Lehigh men's tennis team's Scholar-Athlete award following his freshman and junior seasons. The New Mexico native has also been recognized as an ITA All-Academic Team honoree in his career.
On the court, Cooper earned second team All-Patriot League honors as a sophomore in 2017, a year in which he played at the No. 1 singles and doubles positions. In his senior season, Cooper went 6-3 in singles play and 3-4 in doubles action, playing primarily at No. 5 singles and No. 3 doubles with sophomore Jacob Edelchik. Cooper will depart with a 32-27 career singles record and a 31-25 career doubles mark.
Navy sophomore Andrew Ton was voted Patriot League Scholar-Athlete of the Year by the league's sports information directors.
To be eligible for the Patriot League Scholar-Athlete and Academic All-Patriot League awards, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average and be a starter or key player in his/her sport. Freshmen are not eligible for this honor.
Lehigh went 13-8 in the 2019 season and reached the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament for the first time since 2016.
