Can garners second team All-Patriot League recognition

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh junior Sibel Can has been named to the All-Patriot League second team as the league announced its tennis postseason awards on Friday. This is the first All-Patriot League honor for Can, who was the Patriot League's Rookie of the Year as a freshman in 2017.
The All-Patriot League teams and major awards were voted on by the league's head coaches.
Can was a mainstay at the top of Lehigh's lineup in 2019, playing 10 matches at the No. 1 singles flight and five more at No. 2 as she often faced the opposition's best.
The Weston, Fla., native teamed with sophomore Paula Gonzalez as Lehigh's top doubles team, as they went 9-6 overall and 4-1 during the Patriot League regular season.
In singles play, Can finished with a 7-8 overall mark and went 1-3 in league matches. She posted three victories at the top singles flight and went 4-1 in her five matches at No. 2 singles.
After three seasons, Can now owns a 30-23 career singles record and is 31-24 in doubles.
Army West Point and Boston University split the major awards with Ana Joyner winning Player of the Year and Paul Peck winning Coach of the Year for Army, while BU's Shelly Yaloz was the Rookie of the Year and teamed with Emily Kim to win Doubles Team of the Year.
Lehigh went 8-11 in the 2019 season.
