Mountain Hawks return to league play with visit to Colgate Sunday

3/29/2019 2:20:00 PM | Men's Tennis

BETHLEHEM Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis team returns to Patriot League play this weekend when the Mountain Hawks visit Colgate. Sunday's match has been moved from Hamilton, N.Y. to Syracuse, N.Y. with start time pushed back to 7 p.m.

In its last time on the court, Lehigh (8-6, 1-1) fell to a talented Temple team Sunday in Philadelphia, 7-0. Harry Wang tried to force the issue for Lehigh at No. 1 in a close, 3 set battle that went to a 10 point tiebreak, but was ultimately another setback for Lehigh. Prior to that match, Lehigh beat Saint Josephs at home, 5-2.

Colgate (6-10, 1-0) is coming off of a 4-3, come-from-behind win over St. Bonaventure last Saturday. The Raiders are heating up, having won three of their last four matches including a 7-0 defeat of Patriot League opponent Holy Cross.

Before playing Lehigh on Sunday, Colgate will host Lafayette in Syracuse on Saturday. Both Lehigh and Colgate only have league matches remaining the rest of the regular season.

At 3-0, Army leads the Patriot League standings, while Colgate and Navy are tied for second. Lehigh is one of three teams at .500, along with Loyola and Bucknell. The Mountain Hawks own a win over Loyola on March 16.

Lehigh will also be looking to avenge a 4-3 loss to Colgate last April.

Following the Colgate match, Lehigh will head to West Point, N.Y. next weekend for matches against Boston University and Army. The Mountain Hawks return home on Saturday, April 13 to face rival Lafayette.
