Lehigh pulls out 5-2 road win against Colgate Sunday evening

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – In its first action in a week, the Lehigh men's tennis team went on the road and handed Colgate its first league loss 5-2 Sunday evening at Drumlins Country Club. The Mountain Hawks won two of three doubles matches to take a 1-0 lead and then won the bottom four singles flights.
Senior George Cooper and sophomore Jacob Edelchik won in both singles and doubles as Lehigh improves to 9-6 overall and 2-1 in the Patriot League. Colgate falls to 7-11, 2-1 in league matches.
Cooper and Edelchik opened doubles play with a 6-3 win over Alec Dardis and Tyler Krantz at the No. 3 flight. The doubles point came down to the top flight where sophomore Harry Wang and freshman Zack Elliott prevailed 6-4 over Scott Bickel and Peter Hartman to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead.
The Raiders pulled even when Bickel topped Wang in straight sets at the top singles flight, but Lehigh won the next four singles matches to secure the victory. Senior Bryant Born won in straight sets over Hartman at No. 3, Cooper topped Dardis 7-5, 6-3 at No. 4 and Edelchik clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-5 victory over Rohan Gupta at No. 5 singles. Senior Christopher Auteri added a three-set win at No. 6 singles, while Elliott won his first set before falling to Noah Rosenblat in three at No. 2.
The Mountain Hawks will head to West Point, N.Y. for two matches next weekend as Lehigh will face Boston University Saturday at 10 a.m. and Army West Point at 10 a.m. Sunday.
