Mountain Hawks blank Loyola 7-0 in Patriot League opener

BALTIMORE – The Lehigh men's tennis team opened up Patriot League play by blanking Loyola 7-0 Saturday at the McClure Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks swept all three doubles matches and all six singles matches, though there were some tight battles along the way, to improve to 7-4 on the season and snap a two-match losing streak.
The Mountain Hawks clinched the doubles point behind 6-4 wins from freshman Gary Fishkin and sophomore Jacob Edelchik at No. 3 and senior Christopher Auteri and junior Jack Martin-Dyer at No. 2. Sophomore Harry Wang teamed with freshman Zack Elliott to beat Skyler Gates and Matt Fitzmaurice in a tiebreak to win No. 1 doubles and give Lehigh the sweep.
In singles play, Wang dropped just three games to Brian Hoffarth at No. 1, while Elliott lost just four against Gates at No. 2. Edelchik's 7-6, 6-2 decision over Fitzmaurice clinched the match for the Brown and White.
Auteri added a straight set win at No. 6 over C.J. Cash, while Fishkin and Martin-Dyer needed three sets to pick up wins at No. 4 and No. 3 singles, respectively.
The Mountain Hawks will close out their five match road swing with a 1 p.m. match at Navy on Sunday.
