
Women's Tennis Defeats Saint Francis (Pa.) For Their Second Straight Victory

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team rattled off its second straight victory, as the Mountain Hawks dispatched the Saint Francis (Pa.) Red Flash 6-1 at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center on the campus of Lehigh University.
"Today was a great team win. It's exciting to see all of the hard work from practices start to pay off in the matches," said head coach Sarah Hendrix after the match.
The Mountain Hawks swept doubles play to start the match 1-0, as the paring junior Sibel Can and sophomore Paula Gonzalez win the No. 1 doubles flight 6-2 while sophomore Casey Zhong and freshman Elizabeth Nowak took the No. 2 doubles flight 7-5. Junior Leigh Friedman and senior Grace Lin won the No. 3 doubles flight on forfeit from Saint Francis.
Lehigh continued to dominate the Red Flash in singles play, with Can winning the No. 2 singles in two sets, 6-3, 6-1 while Gonzalez took care of business at the No.1 singles flight, winning in two sets 7-6, 7-5.
Up 3-1 over Saint Francis, Zhong won the No. 4 singles flight in three sets to put the match on ice. After winning her first set 6-3, Zhong would fall 6-2 before rebounding with a 6-4 win in set three to give the Mountain Hawks the win.
Nowak would win the No. 5 singles flight 6-0, 6-2 while freshman Anshika Singh earned her first colligate victory after Saint Francis forfeited the No. 6 Singles flight.
Lehigh will host Mount St. Mary's tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center.
