BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team rattled off its third straight victory as it swept the Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers 7-0 at the Lewis Indoor Tennis Center Sunday afternoon.
The Mountain Hawks move to 3-3 while Mount St. Mary's falls to 0-6 on the season.
"We played an all-around disciplined match. We are a hungry team and we are focused on taking what we learn from each match into the next one," said head coach Sarah Hendrix after the win.
Lehigh wasted no time getting to work against the Mountaineers, posting three consecutive 6-0 results in double play. Junior Sibel Can and Sophomore Paula Gonzalez won the No. 1 doubles flight, freshman Elizabeth Nowak and sophomore Casey Zhong took the No. 2 doubles flight while junior Leigh Friedman and senior Grace Lin won the No. 3 doubles flight.
Up 1-0 after the thunderous showing in doubles, Lehigh moved up to 2-0 after Can won the No. 2 singles flight in two sets, 6-1 and 6-0. Nowak would post similar results in the No. 3 singles flight to make it 3-0 for the Brown and White.
The final nail in the coffin came from Zhong, who won the No. 4 singles flight 6-3, 6-2 to clinch the victory for the Mountain Hawks.
Moving forward in the match, Gonzalez would take the No.1 singles flight in two sets, 6-4 and 7-6 while Lin and freshman Anshika Singh took the No. 5 and No. 6 singles flights in two set performances to give Lehigh the clean sweep.
