BETHLEHEM,Pa. - Lehigh will look to stop its two-game losing streak as it faces the Eagles of American University. In the previous meeting between these two schools, it was the Eagles getting the best of the Mountain Hawks at Stabler Arena on January 19, the third game in a three-game losing skid for the Brown and White. Junior Camryn Buhr was the lone player for Lehigh to hit double figures in scoring, as she led the team with 10 points.
The Mountain Hawks are coming off a close game with the Bucknell Bison that saw Lehigh fall to the No.1 team in the Patriot League 73-68. Lehigh was led by junior Gena Grundhoffer, who was one point shy of her season-high of 18, leading the Mountain Hawks with 17 points. Senior Hailey Pascoe, junior Camryn Buhr and sophomore Mary Clougherty joined Grundhoffer in double figures in scoring. This was the first time since Lehigh beat Colgate on January 23 that Lehigh had four players in double figures in scoring.
Looking to not only avoid its second three-game losing streak of the season, Lehigh is also looking to halt American's five-game winning streak. The last time Lehigh bested the Eagles was February 6, 2016 where the Mountain Hawks won 61-52.
A win against American would also give the Mountain Hawks their first win against a team ranked in the top three in the Patriot League standings. Currently Lehigh, which sits fourth in the standings, is 0-5 against the top-three while holding a 7-0 record against teams below.
Coming in at 15-8 overall, the American Eagles are riding an 11-game winning streak that dates back to January 6 where it defeated Colgate 76-57. The Eagles are 11-1 in league play, as the only blemish being a loss to Bucknell to begin Patriot League play on January 3. American last saw action on February 13, traveling to Loyola (Md.) to take on the Greyhounds. The Eagles came away victorious 67-56.
Cecily Carl led the Eagles in scoring against the Greyhounds with 16 points, joining three other players in double figures for scoring, as Marenyi (14) Kaitlyn Lewis (12) and Indeya Sanders (11) all helped contribute to the win.
With three players averaging double figures in scoring, American will present multiple options to score against the Mountain Hawks, as Carl (14.7), Kaitlyn Marenyi (12.5) and Elina Kiskimies (12.1) all can be serious scoring threats.
