Men's Swimming and Diving looks to continue its momentum at Rutgers Invitational this week

BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team will be competing in a four-day event in Piscataway, New Jersey this week. The Mountain Hawks will be one of six teams competing in the Rutgers Invitational. Joining Lehigh will be UCONN, Colgate, Columbia, American and Illinois. The Fighting Illini will only be diving and not swimming.

Last time out, the Mountain Hawks throttled the Lafayette Leopards for the 28th straight time. The Brown and White won 14-of-16 events in the 218-69 victory. The men's team shattered five records on the night, adding to the already glorious defeat. Walker Wilson and Glenn Lasco tallied three total wins, while Teddy Smith, Connor Sept, Tyler Keller (diving), Matt Feryo and Owen Thomas all managed to win two total races.

Wilson, the senior captain managed to win his second Patriot League Swimmer of the Week award two weeks ago. He was given the honor after leading his team past the Leopards. Wilson won the 1000 free (9:17.63), 500 free (4:32.34) and the 800 free relay (6:44.47). With the time of 9:17.63 in the 1000 free, he broke a pool and team record.

This will be the toughest task so far for the Mountain Hawks this season. The Rutgers Invitational won't be as much about scoring as a team, it will be about racing tough competition and looking to improve individual times. Coach Herb is looking forward to seeing how his team responds and fares against tough competition. The main goal for this week is to prepare for the Patriot League Championships.

In the first part of the season, Lehigh jetted out of the gate, winning explosive meets against Boston, West Chester and Bloomsburg. The Mountain Hawks then faced Rider on short rest and dropped a tough bout to the Broncos. How did Lehigh respond? Well, after rest and strong practices, the Mountain Hawks recorded a dramatic come from behind win over the Loyola Greyhounds, 147.5-146.5.

The first day of action in Piscataway is actually tonight, however Lehigh will not be competing. The lone event on Wednesday night is the 800 free relay (timed final). Check back Thursday night to see how the Mountain Hawks fared on the first day of competition at the Rutgers Invitational.

Up next, the Mountain Hawks will resume Patriot League play when they travel to Army West Point on January 10.
