Men's Swimming and Diving ends Rutgers Invitational with four wins on final day

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Lehigh men's swimming and diving team ended the three-day Rutgers Invitational on a high note. Competing against five other teams, the Mountain Hawks won four of the six races on the final day of competition.
 
"I'll tell you what, these men are on a mission! Whenever they set out to achieve something, they make sure it gets done and do whatever it takes," head coach Rob Herb expressed. "These men keep improving as the season goes on and I can't wait to see where they go from here."
 
Let's start with the 400 freestyle relay team, Glenn Lasco, Walker Wilson, Collin Hanlon and Caleb Eberly raced past their competition and secured first with a time of 3:01.93. Then in the 200 backstroke, Matt Feryo edged his teammate Joey Huber for the win. Feryo finished with a time of 1:49.07, while Huber notched a time of 1:49.51.
 
In the 100 free, Lasco, the speedy sophomore took first with a time of 44.57, and then freshman Nick Highman finished first in the 200 breast at 2:02.92.
 
Andrew Sukach finished fourth in the 200 butterfly A Final with a time of 16:09.96, freshman teammate Janik Wing took first in the B Final with a time of 1:53.06. Nico Lastauskas finished fourth with a time of 16:09.96 in the 1650 freestlyle, followed by Brian Nasielski's time of 16:31.09.
 
Up next, the Mountain Hawks will focus on their final exams, while then enjoying the holidays with their families. However, Lehigh will return to the water for a big-time showdown with Army West Point on January 10.



DAY TWO

On the second day of competition at the Rutgers Invitational, the Lehigh men's swimming and diving team bested its first day performance. The Brown and White captured multiple noteworthy performances on Friday.
 
In the 200 medley relay, Owen Thomas, Connor Sept, Teddy Smith and Glenn Lasco took second with a time of 1:30.37.  A total of eight teams competed and who finished third? Another Lehigh relay team. This time, Matt Feryo, Tyler Christ, Joey Rogers and Walker Wilson took third with a time of 1:31.84.
 
The Mountain Hawks had three other finishes in which they finished second. In the 100 butterfly, Smith was good for second at 59.52, while Sept took second in the 100 breastroke at 56.74. Then in the 100 back, Thomas finished with a time of 49.29, goof enough for the two-spot.
 
In the 200 freestyle, the sophomore Lasco finished third at 1:38.40, and then the freshman Wing finished right behind Smith in the 100 butterfly with a time of 50.31. In the 400 IM, Collin Hanlon (4th) was the first Brown and White finisher at 4:01.84.
 
Competing in the 1-meter dive, Tyler Keller finished sixth with a score of 220.70.

DAY ONE

The 5-1 Lehigh men's swimming and diving team completed its first day in the water at the Rutgers Invitational. Competing against five other teams, the Mountain Hawks impressed with some of their times in the water.
 
"We swam really well today, we had a plethora of guys compete and swim fast," said head coach Rob Herb. "We were fired up right out of the gates and I thought it showed."
 
In the 50 freestyle, Joey Rogers finished third with a time of 20.85, while Walker Wilson, two-time Patriot League Swimmer of the Week came in fifth with a time of 21.03. In the B final, Glenn Lasco blew by the competition at 20.42.
 
Wilson would then go on to finish fifth in the 500 freestyle in the A final. Brian Nasielski then finished with a time of 4:38.12, followed by Matt Feryo's time of 4:38.46.
 
In the 200 IM, Owen Thomas finished fourth at 1:53.58 and just narrowly edged his teammate Colin Hanlon by six-tenths of a second at 1:53.64.
 
In the relays, Caleb Eberly, Greg Giannella, Rogers and Lasco finished third in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:22.87, while the 400 medley relay team consisting of Janik Wing, Tyler Christ, Wilson and Feryo finished fourth at 3:23.37.
 
In the 3-meter dive, Tyler Keller placed sixth with a score of 246.05.
 
Friday will mark the third day of competition and second day battling for the Mountain Hawks. Check back late Friday night to see how Lehigh fared.
