Juniors Kelly and Quinn pace Lehigh on day one of Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational

HAMILTON, N.Y. – On the opening day of its fall season, the Lehigh men's golf team played 36 holes with a score of nine over par 585 to tie for second place at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Invitational, hosted by Colgate at Seven Oaks Golf Club. The Mountain Hawks shot 293 in the morning and 292 in the afternoon and are tied with the host Raiders as part of a 15-team field heading into Sunday's final round.

Lafayette shot an opening round 279 and holds an impressive 19-stroke lead over Lehigh and Colgate heading into the final round at 10 under par 566.

Juniors Ryan Kelly and Owen Quinn led the Mountain Hawks on day one. Both players finished the day at one under par 143, shooting 72 in the morning and 71 in the afternoon, and are tied for third place. Kelly totaled eight birdies on Saturday, four in each round, while Quinn also made eight birdies, carding three in the morning and five in the afternoon.

Senior Lee Hammerschmidt rebounded from a morning 77 to shoot 73 in the afternoon, and is tied for 42nd place at 150. Hammerschmidt had a birdie in each round also eagled the par five 12th hole in the second round.

Freshman Michael Tanaka debuted with an opening round of even par 72 and after an afternoon 80 is tied for 51st place at 152. Tanaka also made an eagle on the par five seventh hole in round one.

Lehigh's fifth player is senior Max Redetzke, who is tied for 70th place at 156. Redetzke made two birdies in his morning 79, then shot 77 in the afternoon.

Competing as an individual, senior Eamon Marone shot two rounds of 77 and is tied for 61st place at 154.

Lafayette's Brendan Cronin tore the Seven Oaks Golf Club up on Saturday, firing rounds of 66 and 69 to take the individual lead at nine under par 135. He leads teammate Kazuki Osawa by seven strokes, while Kelly and Quinn are in the group tied for third eight shots off the pace.
