Mountain Hawks Finish Up At West Point Invitational

WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Lehigh women's Tennis team finished up action in the West Point Invitation hosted by Army West Point this Sunday.

Competing in Flight A singles were Paula Gonzalez and Sibel Can. Both Gonzalez and Can would lose in the first round, with Gonzalez falling 8-1 to Playa Inclan Solis of Saint Joseph's and Can falling to Catie Sullivan of Colgate by a similar score.

In Flight B singles, Elizabeth Nowak and Grace Lin competed for the Brown and White. Lin fell 8-4 in the first round to Mireille Moreau of Connecticut 8-4 wile Nowak made it to the quarterfinals of Flight B. Winning 8-0 in the first round, Nowak advanced to the quarterfinals after her opponent forfeited after losing 7-5 in the first set. Nowak would fall in two sets, 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals to Libi Mesh of Syracuse.

Flight C saw Casey Zhong make it to the quarterfinals. Zhong won her first-round match 8-4 before going to a third set in round two, winning the first set 6-2 before losing 5-7 in set two. The third set looked as if it would never end, with the final set going Zhong's way to the tune of 13-11. She would fall in two sets, 6-0, 6-3 to Renee Ren of Colgate in the quarterfinals.

Leigh Friedman and Catherine Meighan both advanced to the second round of the flight D singles. Friedman took her first match with an 8-6 victory before falling in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9. Meighan won her first match 8-1 before losing 6-4, 6-4 in a two-set match.

In the Flight A doubles, Zhong and Lin lost in the first round 6-1 while Gonzalez and Can fell 6-4 in the first round as well.

Flight B saw the mixed squad of Hamilton (NJIT) and Nowak lose in the first round 6-3 while Nowak and Friedman fell 6-3 in the first round as well.

The Mountain Hawks return home as they host the Lehigh Invitational from Saturday, October 6 to Sunday, October 7.
