BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh's 2019 football schedule will feature its first visit to the west coast in more than 20 years as the Mountain Hawks and UC Davis announced a non-league matchup on Monday. The Mountain Hawks and Aggies will meet at Aggie Stadium on Saturday, September 14, 2019.
The game will mark just the second-ever meeting between Lehigh and UC Davis in football. The two teams met previously in the Knute Rockne Bowl on December 3, 1977 in Davis, Calif. Lehigh won that Division II national semifinal game 39-30 to earn a spot in the following week's Pioneer Bowl, where the Engineers blanked Jacksonville State 33-0 to claim the national championship.
Lehigh's only other football game in the state of California was a 22-16 win at St. Mary's on September 19, 1998.
UC Davis is coming off a 5-6 campaign in 2017. The Aggies are football-only members of the Big Sky Conference. Lehigh's only previous meeting with a football program from the Big Sky was a loss at then-national power Idaho in 1993.
In addition to the visit to UC Davis, Lehigh's 2019 non-league slate will feature games at Villanova and Sacred Heart and home dates with Saint Francis (Pa.) and Wagner. The Mountain Hawks will play six home games in 2019, beginning with an August 31 visit from Saint Francis and concluding with the 155th meeting of The Rivalry against Lafayette on November 23.
The Mountain Hawks will hold their first practice of preseason camp on Thursday and will kick off the 2018 season with back-to-back home games against Saint Francis (September 1) and Villanova (September 8) before a September 15 visit to Navy for the program's first visit to Annapolis since 1987 and its first contest against a FBS opponent since 2003.
