Lehigh Set for Big Midweek Matchups Against Lafayette and Delaware

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Mountain Hawks are set for a pair of critical midweek games with a Patriot League contest at rival Lafayette on Tuesday, followed by a Liberty Bell Classic semifinal matchup with Delaware at home on Wednesday. Both games will be streamed live for free on the Patriot League Network.

Lehigh (11-18, 1-8 PL) will look to even up the season series with Lafayette (12-19, 2-7 PL) as the Leopards own a 2-1 advantage through three games this season. The Mountain Hawks won game two of the series, 5-2, back on March 25, while Lafayette claimed a 1-0 victory in game one and an 8-7 walk-off win in extra innings in game three.

Coming off injury to make his first appearance in nearly two years at Rider on March 27, Matt Kozemchak is slated to get the start on Tuesday. The fifth-year senior eased his way back into action as he earned the start in Lehigh's LBC First Round matchup against Rider and tossed 1.2 scoreless innings without surrendering a hit.

Lafayette will roll out sophomore Mark Anderson on the mound on Tuesday. The lefty is 1-1 in six starts and 10 appearances this season. He owns a 6.89 ERA with 33 strikeouts through 32.2 innings pitched. Anderson earned the win in his last start as he surrendered one run on four hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in 6.0 innings against Saint Joseph's last Wednesday in the LBC Semifinals

Senior second baseman Chris Kersey paces the Lehigh offense in nearly every offensive category. He also ranks inside the top-10 in the Patriot League in batting average (.327), slugging percentage (.462), runs scored (22), hits (34), doubles (10) and triples (2). He is hitting .308 (4-for-13) against Lafayette this season with two doubles and four runs scored.

Senior outfielder Luke Robinson is the main offensive threat for Lafayette. He is tied for the league lead in triples (5) while ranking second in the league in both slugging percentage (.545) and on-base percentage (.446). He also ranks in the top-10 in batting average (.337), runs scored (23), hits (34) and home runs (3). This season against Lehigh, Robinson is hitting .500 (5-for-10) with two triples and three runs scored.

On Wednesday, Lehigh will host Delaware (14-14) semifinal round of the Liberty Bell Classic. The Blue Hens earned their spot in the LBC Semifinals with a 7-3 victory at La Salle on March 27. Senior Calvin Scott sealed the win with a three-run eighth-inning homer gave the Blue Hens a 7-3 lead. Freshman Joey Haass earned his first-career start and tossed 3.0 innings, giving up three runs on two hits. He is slotted to take the mound again on Wednesday with a 7.45 ERA and seven strikeouts in 9.2 innings of work.

The Hens are led offensively by junior outfielder Kyle Baker who is hitting .326 on the season, slugging .465 and paces the squad with 16 RBIs. Junior infielder Erik Bowren leads the team with a .414 on-base percentage, while hitting .301 on the year.

The winner of Wednesday's game will face Lafayette at Citizen's Bank Park on April 17 in the Liberty Bell Classic Championship Game. Lehigh is no stranger to "The Bank" as the Mountain Hawks have made it to the South Philly venue five times, including the inaugural year for the stadium in 2004 when Lehigh captured its lone LBC title in a 11-3 victory over Villanova.

Delaware has achieved the most success in the 26-year history of the Liberty Bell Classic. The Hens have reached the LBC final 14 times and have captured eight titles (the most by any team), beginning in 1992, the inaugural season for the LBC. Delaware is looking to make its first finals appearance since 2013 when the Hens defeated Villanova, 8-3.

Lehigh and Delaware have met five times in the LBC championship bracket with the Hens owning a 4-1 record over the Mountain Hawks. Lehigh won the last meeting between the two teams in a 16-7 victory in a first-round matchup at Legacy Park in 2016.
