Lehigh Men Down Loyola in League Opener

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's tennis squad returned from the spring break trip and opened Patriot League play with a win on Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Loyola at Ulrich Courts. The Mountain Hawks improve to 6-4 overall, 1-0 in league play, while the Greyhounds fall to 5-2 and 0-1 in the league.
It was all Lehigh to start the day as LU swept the doubles matches. Jack Martin-Dyer and Jacob Edelchik recorded their sixth victory of the season as the team's top pairing improves to 6-2 on the season following a 6-0 win on Sunday at the top flight. Jack Petersen and Bryant Born got above .500 with 6-0 victory at the second flight to improve to 5-4 on the season. George Cooper and Christopher Auteri paired up for the first time on the season and posted a 6-4 victory at the third flight.
Martin-Dyer went 2-0 on the day and captured Lehigh's first singles win with a straight-set victory at the first flight. Auteri followed up his teammates win with a straight-set victory of his own at the fifth flight as he remains undefeated at 8-0 on the season.
Harry Wang sealed the win for the Mountain Hawks in the league opener with a straight-set victory at the second flight over Reid Burch. Wang evens his record at 5-5 on the season with his first victory at the second flight.
Petersen also went 2-0 on the day as he posted the final LU victory of the day as he edged out Matt Fitzmaurice in three sets at the fourth flight and got back in the win column after a three-match skid.
The Mountain Hawks return to action next weekend in a two-match home stand beginning with Temple on Saturday and finishing with La Salle on Sunday.
