Mountain Hawks Ready to Roll at Patriot League Championships

BETHLEHEM, Pa. ā The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams will take the to the pool for the 2018 Patriot League Championships starting Wednesday and running through Saturday at Lejeune Hall on the grounds of the U.S. Naval Academy.

The event will begin with the men's 3-meter diving trials at 2 p.m. Wednesday, with the day's event finals starting at 6 p.m. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will swim at 6 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The entire 2018 Patriot League Swimming and Diving Championships can be viewed for free on the Patriot League Network starting with Wednesday's evening session, and fans can also follow the live results here.

Eight-time all-America swimmer Jeff Commings will serve as the play-by-play announcer for the PLN championship coverage. He was a member of several USA Swimming national teams and competed at two U.S. Olympic Trials. Commings also has set numerous national and world records during his Masters swimming career.

The Lehigh women, led by 2017 Coach of the Year, Rob Herb, will look to build off a third place finish at last year's championships which was the team's best finish since 2003 when they also finished third. The Mountain Hawks return 2017 champions, Meghan Thompson (1650 free) and Payton Miles (50 free), in addition to returning All-Patriot League performers Sydney Bornstein (second team), Courtney Ferreira (second team), Julianne Koch (second team) from a season ago.

On the men's side, Lehigh is poised to crack the top-five in the final standings for the 27th time in league history. The men do not return any champions or All-League performers from last season, but will rely on senior sprinter Zach Tieke, sophomore mid distance specialist Walker Wilson, in addition to seniors Jimmy Davey and Dean Shafritz who all have championship meet experience on their resumes.
