Mountain Hawks return to Patriot League play at American Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding a four-game winning streak, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team looks to continue the success when it travels to Washington, D.C. to face American University on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game can be viewed live through the Patriot League Network. Lehigh comes into the game with a 6-2 record (1-0 in league play) following a 12-11 overtime thriller against Columbia on Wednesday.
 
Lehigh scored three goals in 1:02 to take an 11-9 lead with 3:18 remaining, but Columbia tied the score with a pair of goals in a 1:36 span, including the tying goal with 34 seconds left in regulation. Senior Julianne D'Orazio ultimately scored the game-winner for Lehigh in overtime, her third goal of the game for her second straight hat trick. She also recorded five groundballs and three caused turnovers.
 
Senior Allison LaBeau continued her strong season, tallying three goals and two assists to bring her season total to 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) and career total to 197 points (125 points, 72 assists). She has at least three points in every game this season. Sophomore Courtney Henig tied a season high with four points in the game (one goal, career-high three assists), which included the assist on D'Orazio's game-winning goal.
 
Defensively, senior Lauren Beausoleil led the way for the Mountain Hawks with five groundballs and four caused turnovers, while also scoring two second-half goals. She currently stands 25th in the nation in groundballs per game (3.25), and D'Orazio is 11th in the country in caused turnovers per contest (2.50). Senior goalkeeper Taylor Tvedt recorded seven saves, including two big stops in overtime, and stands 15th in the nation in goals against average (8.93).
 
American is 2-6 this season and 0-1 in the Patriot League, most recently losing 15-6 at Colgate. The team started off the season with five straight losses and has allowed double-digit goals in every game so far. Offensively, American has scored just 7.25 goals per game while allowing 13.25 per contest. Junior Jennifer DeSimone leads American with 17 goals and 17 points in eight games. Four other players have double-digit points thus far, including Sarah Bootman (eight goals, six assists) and Erica Skowran (nine goals, four assists). Madison Soon leads the team in groundballs (21), caused turnovers (16) and draw controls (33). Fiona Geier has recorded a 12.71 goals against average and .466 save percentage.
 
Lehigh has won the last three meetings between the teams to pull within 12-7 in the all-time series. Most recently, the Mountain Hawks beat the Eagles last season, 10-6. LaBeau posted three goals and two goals in the win while Tvedt finished with 10 saves, seven in the second half.
 
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh will have two home games in a row, beginning with a matchup against Navy on Wednesday, March 29 at 7 p.m.
