
Lehigh opens Patriot League play at Holy Cross Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Riding two straight wins, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team will open Patriot League play on Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Holy Cross. Opening draw is set for 11 a.m. on the Patriot League Network. Lehigh is coming off a successful trip to Richmond, which included a 9-7 win at Richmond and 16-6 victory at VCU to improve to 4-2 on the season.

On Monday, VCU scored first, but the Mountain Hawks responded to go up 16-3 late in the second half in a dominant effort. Freshman Sondra Dickey helped lead the charge with career highs in goals (4), points (5), groundballs (4) and caused turnovers (3). Junior Haley Wentzel also scored three goals for her fourth-career hat trick while senior Taylor Tvedt tied a season-high 10 saves.

Through six games, senior Allison LaBeau leads the Mountain Hawks with 23 points behind 11 goals and 12 assists. Wentzel owns 16 points (14 goals, two assists) while sophomore Kaitlyn Quinn has 14 points (13 goals, one assist). Senior Lauren Beausoleil owns a team-leading 18 groundballs and 15 draw controls. Tvedt owns a 9.80 goals against average and .485 save percentage.

Holy Cross enters Saturday's game with a 5-3 record, most recently beating Ohio State 11-10, the Crusaders' third straight win. The streak began with wins over New Hampshire (11-10) and Vermont (14-5). Tess MacKay leads the Crusaders with 19 goals and 21 points. She is followed by Maddie Ward, who owns 15 points (14 goals, one assist), while Mary Patalita has 15 points as well (10 goals, five assists). Julia Maloney has recorded a team-leading 24 groundballs while Anna Johnson leads the way in draw controls (29) and caused turnovers (12). Maloney has started all eight games in goal, recording a 9.07 goals against average and .463 save percentage.

Last season, Lehigh earned a 12-7 win over Holy Cross, the Mountain Hawks' second straight win against the Crusaders. LaBeau led the way with seven points (three goals, four assists), and Beausoleil had a hat trick. The last time the teams played at Holy Cross, Lehigh picked up an 11-8 win in the 2015 regular season finale.

Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks head home next Wednesday (Mar. 22) to host Columbia at 7 p.m.
