BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team enters the second of its four straight road games when it will travel to face Richmond on Saturday in Richmond, Virginia. The game is set for noon. Lehigh comes into the game 2-2, most recently losing to the No. 12 University of Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
Â
Despite Lehigh opening the scoring with a goal against Penn, the Quakers went on a 9-0 run in the first half to take an 11-2 lead with 4:43 left in the half. Still down 12-3 at halftime, the Mountain Hawks hung in the game throughout the second half, scoring three straight in just over three minutes of play to make it 14-7. However, Penn's offensive firepower was too much for Lehigh in the Mountain Hawks' eventual 17-9 loss.
Â
Six different players scored for Lehigh, including a career-high three from sophomore attacker Kaitlyn Quinn. Quinn is third on the team in goals this year with eight. Junior attacker/midfielder Haley Wentzel added two goals, two groundballs and three caused turnovers.
Â
Wentzel and senior attacker Allison LaBeau come into the game tied for the team lead in goals with nine, while LaBeau leads in points with 17. Senior midfielder Lauren Beausoleil leads the team in groundballs with 14, and Julianne D'Orazio and Kierstyn Voiro are tied for the lead with 10 caused turnovers.
Â
Richmond comes into the game boasting a 3-1 record, with wins over Liberty (18-7), Old Dominion (11-8) and American (15-5). The team's only loss was by one goal to Virginia, 15-14. Sam Geiersbach (12 goals, five assists), Kim Egizi (eight goals, nine assists) and Marissa Brown (eight goals, nine assists) are tied atop the team's point standings with 17 each. Natalia Chaney leads the team in goals with 14. Megan Gianforte has a team-high 14 groundballs this season.
Â
This is the second ever meeting between the two schools in women's lacrosse. Lehigh won the only other meeting, 14-10, in 1984.
Â
Following Saturday's game, the Mountain Hawks will stay in Richmond to take on VCU on Tuesday, Mar. 14 at 3 p.m. The team will then open its Patriot League schedule at Holy Cross on Saturday, Mar. 18.
