Men's Tennis Tallies First Win of the Season with 5-2 Victory Over Delaware

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In a dominant home performance, the Lehigh men's tennis team put a tally in the win column for the first time this season with a 5-2 victory over Delaware on Saturday inside the Lewis Tennis Center. The Mountain Hawks are now 1-4 on the season, while the Blue Hens fall to 1-2. Lehigh has now won the last six meetings with Delaware dating back to 2012 spring season.

The Mountain Hawks began with a strong start by winning all three doubles matches. LU has now won the doubles point in consecutive matches.

The No. 1 pairing of George Cooper and Dylan Karchere-Sun each recorded their first doubles victory of the season with a 6-1 win over Delaware's Laurenz Lankes and Venkatesh Ramkumar. The duo of Jack Petersen and Graham Lehman earned their second-straight victory together at flight No. 2 with a 6-4 victory and clinched the doubles point for Lehigh. Ethan Bogard and Colin Nardella completed the doubles sweep for LU witha 6-3 victory for their second-straight win together.

The Blue Hens rallied back from the early deficit after getting swept in the doubles competition. Delaware's Colin Wong recorded a 6-2, 6-1 win over Nardella at No. 3 singles and Ramkumar defeated Karchere-Sun at No. 4 singles to give Delaware a 2-1 match lead.

Lehigh pulled even with Delaware, 2-2, following Petersen's 6-4, 6-3 win at No. 2 singles as the junior recorded his first victory of the season. Cooper put Lehigh back in the lead for good with his three-set victory and second-straight win at singles flight No. 1.

Bogard dropped his first set, but rallied back to win the final two sets and sealed the victory for Lehigh at No. 5 singles. Bogard's victory is his first of the season.

Lehman closed out the match at No. 6 singles by adding to the Lehigh lead with his 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 victory over Luis Marcano. Lehman also claimed his first victory of the season on Saturday.

The Mountain Hawks will look to keep the momentum going as they move ahead to next Saturday when they host Stony Brook in the Seawolves' season opener. The match is slated to begin at 3 p.m. inside the Lewis Tennis Center.
