Lehigh Returns to Racing with Two Meets this Weekend

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team will compete for the first time in two weeks this Friday and Saturday as they split to take part in the Penn State National Open on Friday morning, and the Leopard Invitational on Saturday.
 
Penn State National Open – Friday, Oct. 13 at 10:45 a.m. – 6K
Lehigh will send 11 runners to partake in Friday's meet in State College, Pa. The Mountain Hawks will be facing some of the top talent in the country at the meet, which includes five nationally ranked opponents and five teams that are ranked in the latest Mid-Atlantic Regional poll - Villanova (1), Penn State (2), West Virginia (4), Princeton (5) and Bucknell (10). Lehigh currently sits ninth in the Mid-Atlantic, the highest seed for a Patriot League team. Live results will not be available for the meet.
 
Scheduled Teams: Akron, Bucknell, Buffalo, Cornell, Dartmouth, Duquesne, James Madison, Kent State, Loyola (Md.), North Carolina, Northwestern, No. 26 Oklahoma State, No. 12 Ole Miss, No. 10 Penn State, Princeton, UC Davis, No. 15 Villanova, No. 29 West Virginia, and William and Mary.
 
Leopard Invitational – Saturday, Oct. 14 at 10 a.m. – 6K
The remainder of the Mountain Hawks' squad will remain in the Lehigh Valley on Saturday to compete at the Leopard Invitational, hosted by Lafayette at the Metzgar Fields Athletic Complex.
 
Scheduled Teams: Bucknell, Juniata, Lafayette, Seton Hall and St. Joseph's
 
Lehigh is coming off a solid showing at the 44th annual Paul Short Run on Sept. 29, placing 17th out of 42 teams in a race that featured several nationally ranked and power conference opponents. Junior Maura Henderson was named the Patriot League's Runner of the Week and was one of three Lehigh runners to finish with one of the top 10 fastest times ever by a Lehigh runner on the 6K Goodman Campus Course. Henderson's time of 20:52 placed her 52nd overall in the race and ranked her fourth all-time by an LU runner on the Goodman Course. Sophomore Hannah Bonaguidi ranked seventh on the school's record list in 21:09, and sophomore Ashleigh Crawford's time of 21:32 tied for 10th all-time.
Lehigh's 17th place team finish marked its highest placement at Paul Short since also placing 17th back in 2008.
