UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Lehigh women's cross country team placed 14th overall at the Penn State National Open on Friday morning. The host Nittany Lions, ranked No. 10 nationally, took home first place with 44 points, followed by No. 15 Villanova (62) and Dartmouth (122). Patriot League foe Bucknell placed 10th, while Lehigh came in 14th with 382 points and Loyola (Md.) rounded out the field of 17 teams with 558 points. The meet featured five nationally ranked teams and five teams ranked in the Mid-Atlantic Region.

Junior Stacie Nadel led the Lehigh pack for the second time this season with a time of 21:43 to finish 65th overall out of 177 runners. Sophomore Hannah Bonaguidi was the next Lehigh finisher in 88th place in 22:03. Junior Stephanie Hayes finished 92nd overall in 22:08, followed by Ashleigh Crawford (94th/22:10) and Diana Hammerstone (100th/22:16) to round out Lehigh's top five. Junior Maura Henderson (123rd/22:34) placed sixth on the team and freshman Elyse Barkstrom set a new season-best time (131st/22:41) to complete Lehigh's top seven scorers.

Senior Laura Barnes (23:05), freshman Hannah Knudsen (23:17), junior Grace Eckstein (24:24), and sophomore Jenn Mickens (24:34) also competed for the Brown and White.

"Stacie Nadel had a tremendous race, and our pack of Stephanie Hayes, Ashleigh Crawford and Diana Hammerstone did a tremendous job of matching up with who we wanted to match up with," said head coach Debbie Utesch. "They're running very confidently and strongly. Our front runners struggled today. They're battling and working thru some things that they will work out and be back ready to go in two weeks.

"We had a really tough workout on Tuesday by design and pushed right through this race," Utesch said. We're excited with how we get to freshen up and the running is going to come easier as we taper and freshen up going into Patriots."

With the regular season in the rearview mirror after this weekend, Lehigh will be hosting the Patriot League Championships in two weeks at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course on Oct 28.

"Today was not the team performance we were looking for, but they've been resilient all year and are excited to bounce back from this," Utesch said. "We will sort through a couple more things and be ready to go on the home turf in two weeks."

Lehigh will officially close out the regular season tomorrow with several women scheduled to compete at the Leopard Invitational at Lafayette.
