Lehigh heads to Bucknell Wednesday for big league showdown

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh women's tennis team gets back on the road for an important Patriot League match at Bucknell Wednesday. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m.
Lehigh carries an 8-5 overall record and 3-1 mark against Patriot League opponents into Wednesday's contest. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 2-0 week in league play as Lehigh cruised to 7-0 sweeps against Lafayette and Colgate. Lehigh's other league win came in the form of a 6-1 victory over Loyola on March 20, while the Mountain Hawks dropped a tough 4-3 decision at Navy on March 26.
Junior Cassidy Cruz and sophomore Briana Maravich are both 4-0 in singles action against league opponents, while every other Mountain Hawk in the singles lineup is 3-1. Maravich leads the team with 11 overall singles victories, while freshman Grace Lin has secured 10 this season. Cruz is 4-0 in doubles in Patriot League play.
Bucknell is also 8-5 on the season and carries a 2-0 record against league opponents into Wednesday's match. The Bison opened their league slate last weekend with a 6-1 win against Loyola before capturing a 4-0 victory over Colgate. Bucknell's top singles player Maria Cioffi holds a 17-match winning streak in league dual matches dating back to her freshman year.
Lehigh beat Bucknell for the first time since 2006 last season when the Mountain Hawks captured a 4-3 win over the Bison on April 14, 2015 at the Ulrich Varsity Courts. The Mountain Hawks swept the doubles matches, winning two of the three matches in tiebreaks, and then captured three of the first four singles matches to snap an 11-match losing streak against the Bison.
Following Wednesday's match, Lehigh will head to West Point, N.Y. to take on defending champ Boston University Sunday at 2 p.m.
