BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's golf team will return to action Monday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Gladwyne, Pa. for the Finegan Invitational, hosted by La Salle. It will mark the Mountain Hawks' final pre-Patriot League Championship tournament of the 2016 campaign. The 36-hole tournament, hosted by La Salle at Philadelphia Country Club, features a 14-team field.Â
Although the Mountain Hawks streak of second-place finishes was snapped, they continued their strong play this spring with a sixth place finish out of 19 teams at the Lafayette Invitational April 3-4. The Mountain Hawks shot 304 on the final day to finish the 36-hole event at 49 over par 617 (313-304). Lehigh's top four finishers were separated by just four strokes. Freshman Eamon Marone was the Mountain Hawks' top finisher, tying for 19th place at 153. Senior Dave Olexson, sophomore Billy Johns and freshmen Johnny Hsu and Max Redetzke comprised the rest of Lehigh's scoring team.
The course at Philadelphia Country Club covers 6,707 yards and plays to a par of 71.
Along with Lehigh and host La Salle, the field includes Bucknell, Central Connecticut State, Drexel, Iona, Lafayette, Monmouth, Navy, Niagara, Rider, St. Francis Brooklyn, Villanova, and Alvernia.
This will be Lehigh's first appearance at the Finegan Invitational, which is in its fifth year. The Mountain Hawks will look to dethrone Lafayette, which returns as the reigning champ of the event.
The teams will tee off at 9 a.m. Monday with a shotgun start. Live scoring will be available as the players come off the 9th and 18th greens.
Lehigh will return to action with a head-to-head stroke play meeting with Lafayette for its final tune-up prior to the Patriot League Championship, April 26 at Silver Creek Country Club in Hellertown, Pa.
