BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After its seven-game winning streak was snapped on Wednesday, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team looks to get back on track this Saturday when the Mountain Hawks travel to Boston University to face the Terriers. Opening draw is set for 3:30 p.m. Lehigh jumped out to a 2-0 lead at Navy Wednesday, and also led 4-3, but the Midshipmen scored eight of the game's final nine goals to pull away, 11-5.
The loss snapped Lehigh's seven-game winning streak, which was its longest since the start of the 2010 season. The Mountain Hawks' 7-1 record after eight games was also their beset mark since beginning that same year 8-0.
Senior Kendall Garden and junior Allison LaBeau gave Lehigh an early 2-0 lead against the Midshipmen Wednesday. After three straight Navy goals, the Mountain Hawks immediately answered with free-position tallies from sophomore Haley Wentzel and freshman Jane Henderson. LaBeau added her second goal of the game in the second half, but it wasn't enough. Garden finished the evening with a goal, team-high three draw controls, one groundball and a caused turnover. She now owns 93 career points and 87 career groundballs, while also recently eclipsing 100 career groundballs (currently owning 107).
Despite the most recent defeat, Lehigh still stands 7-2 on the season and 2-1 in Patriot League play, tied for third place in the standings. Boston University is tied with Lehigh in the loss column, currently owning a 3-1 league mark. Loyola is in first at 3-0.
The Terriers are 5-5 overall on the season, most recently coming back from a halftime deficit to beat Colgate Wednesday. The Raiders led 6-5 at the half, but BU scored six of the first seven second-half goals, on its way to a 14-11 win. The Terriers' other league wins came at American (14-4) and Bucknell (17-7) while falling to Loyola (10-6). Four different Boston University players all own 20 or more points, led by Ally Adams with 27 (18 goals, nine assists). Mickenzie Larivee has 23 points (20 goals, three assists), Taylor Hardison owns 23 (two goals, team-high 21 assists) and Mallory Collins has 22 (20 goals, two assists). Goalkeeper Caroline Meegan leads the team with 22 groundballs while Jill Horka leads the way in draw controls (45) and caused turnovers (11). Meegan has started seven of 10 games this season, tallying a 10.84 GAA and .500 save percentage.
Boston University leads the all-time series with Lehigh, 4-1. The first-ever meeting came in 1999, a 17-9 BU win. The teams reconvened when the Terriers joined the Patriot League and have met twice in both 2014 and 2015, playing in the league tournament each year. Lehigh evened the series at one with a thrilling 12-11 double overtime win on Apr. 5, 2014. Last season's Patriot League Quarterfinal contest was a close game with neither team leading by more than three goals. The Terriers went on to win, 8-7.
Following Saturday's contest, the Mountain Hawks return home for their next two games, hosting Rutgers next Tuesday and Army West Point next Saturday. Both games are set for 7 p.m.
