BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Off to its best start since 2010, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team looks to continue the success when it heads to Davidson on Tuesday to face the Wildcats. Opening draw is set for 6:30 p.m. The Mountain Hawks are coming off a 16-5 win at Liberty on Saturday, the team's fourth straight victory.
Lehigh quickly erased any doubt on Saturday by scoring the game's first 11 goals. Freshman Jane Henderson tallied her first-career goal to open the scoring and ended up scoring two of the Mountain Hawks' first five goals. Classmate Annie Pearson also scored two early goals as well. In the end, freshmen combined for 10 of the Mountain Hawks' 16 goals. Courtney Henig led the way with a career-high five points (four goals, one assist) while Pearson tallied four (three goals, one assist). Freshman Kaitlyn Quinn also scored a goal.
Junior Allison LaBeau posted a goal and three assists to reach 25 points on the season, most on the team and tied for third in the Patriot League. Sophomore Haley Wentzel also had two goals and one assist for her third straight multi-point game. Defensively, seven different Mountain Hawks tallied a caused turnover, led by two from senior Nicole Isdaner. Sophomore Kayleen Kelly posted six draw controls to help Lehigh hold a 12-10 edge in that category. In the end, the Lehigh defense allowed just nine shots all game, the fewest shots it's allowed since also giving up just nine against Mount St. Mary's on Feb. 22, 2014.
Davidson is 3-2 on the season, which includes two straight victories. One of the wins came against Patriot League foe Holy Cross as the Wildcats beat the Crusaders, 8-7. Christine Molinari leads the team in points with 16 behind six goals and 10 assists. Emma Sissman is the team's leading goal-scorer with 13 on the year while Lucy Sexton also has 13 points (nine goals, four assists). Goalie Roose Woolson leads the team in groundballs (11), Sissman leads the way in draw controls (17) and Rachel Hianik owns a team-leading four caused turnovers. Woolson has seen the majority of time in goal, tallying an 8.29 GAA and .508 save percentage.
The all-time series between Lehigh and Davidson is tied at two with the Mountain Hawks winning the most recent meeting in 2009, 18-4. The teams first met in 1995, a 16-3 Lehigh win before the Wildcats responded with wins in 2002 and 2006.
Following Tuesday's game, the Mountain Hawks return home this Saturday to host Holy Cross in their Patriot League opener. Opening draw at the Ulrich Sports Complex is set for 1 p.m.
