Women's Tennis Has Successful Showing at Patriot League Kickoff

BETHLEHEM, PA. – The Lehigh women's tennis team had a successful outing at the Patriot League Kickoff on its home courts this weekend with an individual and a doubles title.
Senior Cassidy Cruz claimed the title in the No. 3 singles draw as she went 3-0 on the weekend. Cruz picked up a 6-4, 6-4, victory in her first match, a 6-3, 6-2 win in her second match and finished with a 6-1, 0-6, 10-5 victory in her final match to win the No. 3 singles bracket.
Lehigh also claimed a title in the doubles competition as freshman Sibel Can and sophomore Grace Lin paired up to win the No. 1 doubles draw. The pairing recorded a 6-1 victory in the first round, then a 6-4 victory in the second round before being awarded a walk over victory in the final match to win the draw.
In the No. 2 doubles draw, the pairing of freshman Leigh Friedman and junior Kirstin Godau took home the consolation title. The pair fell 0-6 in their first match, but picked a 6-3 victory and then finished with a 6-4 win to capture the consolation bracket.
In the No. 1 singles draw, junior Christina Auyeung took home the consolation title. The junior fell 4-6, 1-6 in her first match, but then picked up back-to-back 6-2, 6-3 victories to win the consolation bracket.
Junior Briana Maravich went 2-1 on the weekend while playing in the No. 2 singles draw. The junior claimed a 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 victory in her first match and then earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory in the semifinals before falling 2-6, 2-6 in the title match.
Senior Jamie Campisi compiled a record of 2-1 on the weekend playing in the No. 3 singles draw. The senior won 6-0, 6-2 in her first round match and then battled to a 6-7(5), 6-3, 10-6 victory in the semifinal round before falling to her teammate, Cruz, in the finals, 1-6, 6-0, 5-10.
The Mountain Hawks will wrap up the fall slate with a trip to Yale for the ITA Regional Championships. Competition in New Haven, Conn. will begin on Thursday, October 20 and conclude on Monday, October 25.
