Lehigh baseball players enjoying success in summer leagues

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The 2015 Patriot League Champion Lehigh baseball team is well represented in several summer leagues across the country, including many of the most prestigious leagues. Ten Mountain Hawks have spent their summers in the local Atlantic Collegiate Baseball League, four of whom have been selected to participate in the ACBL's All-Star Game.
Recent Yankees draftee Mike Garzillo has spent his summer with the Bourne Braves of the prestigious Cape Cod League. Garzillo is batting .239 with seven RBI and eight runs scored. Two Mountain Hawks, Connor Donovan and Kevin Long, are representing Lehigh in the Northwoods League. Donovan has compiled a 3.30 ERA in 18 appearances out of the bullpen and 32.2 innings pitched. He holds a 4-2 record with one save and 27 strikeouts as a member of the Green Bay Bullfrogs. Long has struck out 18 batters in 21.2 innings for the Lakeshore Chinooks. Kevin Boswick, competing for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plains League, has tallied a 2.88 ERA and three wins on the mound. Boswick has struck out 36 batters in 25 innings thrown.
Patrick Donnelly, John Scarr, Dave Young and James Bleming have all made their way to the ACBL All-Star game, to be played Thursday, July 23 at Memorial Park in Quakertown. Donnelly has helped his Allentown Railers squad to a 27-3 record by batting .319 with 14 RBI, ten runs scored and six doubles. Two other Mountain Hawks have also helped the Railers to their 27-3 record as Jacen Nalesnik is hitting .288 with seven RBI and 13 runs scored and Brandon Kulp holds a 1.88 ERA with 16 strikeouts in 14.1 innings pitched.
Scarr and Young have both put together strong summers for the Jersey Pilots of the ACBL. Scarr is hitting .311 with 14 RBI and seven runs scored, while Young has batted .264 thus far this season. Young has impressed on the mound as well, tallying a 2-1 record with a 1.28 ERA in 21 innings thrown. Bleming, Lehigh's fourth ACBL All-Star, is hitting .270 with 12 RBI and 16 runs scored for the Quakertown Blazers. Four other Mountain Hawks have spent their summers as members of the ACBL's Lehigh Valley Catz in Michael Schwab, Peter Moore, Mackey Price and Anthony Rinaldi.
Mike Palestri leads the Atlantic Baseball Confederation Collegiate League with five saves as a member of the Monmouth Monarchs. Sam Ashey has spent his summer with the Victoria Generals of the Texas Collegiate League, the same team former standout and recent Padres draftee Justin Pacchioli played for a summer ago, while Matt Kozemchak is rostered with the New Market Rebels of the Valley League.
Ryan Bonshak has enjoyed success in the Blue Mountain League, hitting .340 as a member of the Orioles. Chris Kersey is hitting .400 in the Perkiomen Twilight League, and is joined by John Fitz in the league. Drew LaMotte is a member of the Homestead Ranchers in Illinois. Other Mountain Hawks in local summer leagues include Mark Washington and Stephen Fitzgerald in the DelCo League and Frank Rosetti in the Penn Del League.
The successful summer performances build upon Lehigh's historic 2015 season in which the Mountain Hawks captured their second-ever league crown and made an appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
