Lehigh swimming and diving teams recognized for academics by CSCAA

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's and women's swimming and diving teams were both recognized Tuesday as the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announced its Scholar All-America teams.
This prestigious Scholar All-America Award is presented by CSCAA and recognizes teams that maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. It is awarded twice annually at the end of the fall and spring semesters. Both the Lehigh men and women received the award together for the first time since the 2013 fall semester. The Mountain Hawk women impressed with a 3.42 GPA in the recently completed 2015 spring semester, while the men recorded a 3.14.
On the women's side, Lehigh's 3.42 tied for 67th among the 172 Division I programs that posted a 3.0 or better in the spring. The Lehigh men tied for 53rd out of 92 Division I programs.
Earlier this month, the Mountain Hawks placed 24 swimmers and divers on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. Seniors Madeleine Smith and Kimberly Weyand earned 4.0 GPAs in the spring to lead the way for the 16 women recognized, while senior Sean Brant's 4.0 paced the Lehigh men. Brant and women's sophomore Kaitlyn Ruffing were named to Academic All-Patriot League teams in late February.
In all more than 600 teams representing 406 institutions across NCAA Division I, II, III, the NAIA and NJCAA received the Scholar All-America Designation.
The 2014-15 season saw Lehigh's women finish fourth at the Patriot League Championships, while the men finished fifth.
