Â
PHILADELPHIA - The Lehigh rowing team wrapped up its weekend at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta as the Women's Varsity Eight placed fifth in its semifinal on Saturday.
Â
"We put out a tremendous effort in the semifinal race," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "We had to overcome the struggles of racing twice the day before compared to our competition who went directly to the semifinals. We raced as best as we could, but just came up short in the end."
Â
The Mountain Hawks placed fifth with a time of 6:55.068, beating Orange Coast, another team that had to race twice on Friday. Bucknell finished first followed by Grand Valley State, Temple and Connecticut.
Â
The weekend featured tremendous balance across the board as every Lehigh boat was in contention to advance.
Â
"I think overall, it was a really solid weekend for the team," said Conley. "We had all boats in contention to move forward and qualify for the next level of racing, which we've never done before. Typically, we've had a boat not close to qualifying. The whole team was close to qualifying this year, which is impressive."
Â
The Dad Vail Regatta marked the final racing of the season for the men's team while the women look ahead to the Patriot League Championships next Friday on the Cooper River in Camden, N.J.
Â
"I think the group's really excited going into Patriots knowing they can race at a very high level and against some very fast teams," said Conley. "Now that they have a taste of victory, we'll be looking to up the level again in six days."
