Patriot League Release

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a strong performance at the prestigious Dad Vail Regatta last weekend, the Lehigh women's rowing team heads to the Patriot League Championships on Friday. Competition begins at 8 a.m. with the first heat of the Varsity Eight. Petite Finals begin at 11:30 a.m. while Grand Finals are set for noon. The championships will be held on the Cooper River in Camden, New Jersey.

Last season, the Mountain Hawks finished seventh out of nine teams, standing just three points behind Holy Cross in sixth place.

"This is what we've been training for," said Lehigh head coach Brian Conley. "I think the team has felt a great improvement in our depth, which has allowed the team to get better overall."

Lehigh had a strong showing at the Dad Vail Regatta last weekend, highlighted by the Varsity Eight which won its heat and advanced to the semifinals.

"The team is really looking forward to take the speed that they showed at Dad Vails and tighten up a couple of loose things in our racing to find that extra couple of inches that the championship requires," said Conley.

Friday marks a culmination of hard work the entire school year, featuring fall competition, winter training and the spring season.

"I am expecting to have our best set of races as a complete team," said Conley. "I have seen a lot of speed out of all the boats in practice and I cannot wait to see what the process of the year has done for us. It is not going to be easy by any means. The Patriot League has become one of the toughest leagues out there to win because of so many good crews, but I wouldn't want it any other way."
