NFF Hampshire Honor Society Release
BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh football seniors Ned Daryoush and Josh Parris have been named to the 2015 National Football Foundation (NFF) and College Hall of Fame Hampshire Honor Society, it was announced Wednesday.
Â
Qualifications for membership in the NFF Hampshire Honor Society include: being a starter or significant contributor in one's last year of eligibility at an accredited NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision, Football Championship Subdivision, Division II, Division III or an NAIA college or university, achieving a 3.2 cumulative grade point average throughout the entire course of undergraduate study, and meeting all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Â
Both Daryoush and Parris served as captains on Lehigh's 2014 squad and both were members of Lehigh's Patriot League Championship team in 2011.
Â
Daryoush started the final 33 games of his Lehigh career at left tackle and received All-Patriot League recognition in each of his final three seasons in the brown and white, including first team honors in 2013 and 2014.
Â
A supply chain management major with a 3.24 cumulative GPA, Daryoush was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll following his final two seasons.
Â
The Hampshire Honor Society is the latest in a year of academic recognition for Parris. A biology major with a 3.30 GPA, Parris was an Academic All-Patriot League selection in 2014, and was a semifinalist for the William V. Campbell trophy, given to the top football scholar-athlete in the nation. Parris is a multi-time member of Lehigh's Dean's List and the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and was selected for the FCS ADA Academic All-Star team earlier this year.
Â
On the field, Parris was a two-year starter at wide receiver for the Mountain Hawks and was the team's primary punt returner. He caught a team-best 55 passes in 2014, gaining 635 yards and scoring three touchdowns.
Â
A total of 817 players from 278 schools qualified for membership in the society's ninth year, setting a new record for the number of schools represented in the history of the program began in 2007. The initiative has honored 5,744 student-athletes since its inception.
Â
This marks the third consecutive year that Lehigh had two football student-athletes named to the Hampshire Honor Society. Last year wide receiver Sergio Fernandez-Soto and long snapper Kyle Lechner were recognized, while running back Zach Barket and wide receiver Ryan Spadola were honored in 2013. Other Lehigh members of the Hampshire Honor Society include Tom Randazza '11, Frank Giacalone '10 and Brendan Van Ackeren '09.
