Lehigh completes opening 36 holes at Patriot League Championship

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Lehigh men's golf team opened the Patriot League Championship with a solid opening round 303 on Saturday but on a day when the other seven Patriot League schools posted seven of 14 rounds under 300, the Mountain Hawks find themselves in sixth place in the eight team field. The Mountain Hawks were sixth after round one and after a 312 in round two Lehigh sits at 615 after 36 holes at Seven Oaks Golf Club.

The top four teams in the field all posted consecutive rounds under 300, while fifth place Navy sits 14 strokes ahead of the Mountain Hawks after rounds of 299 and 302.

Individually, junior Harley Abrams and freshman Billy Johns were the low Mountain Hawks in Saturday's morning round with 75s. Abrams led Lehigh in the afternoon with a 77 and is the low Mountain Hawk at eight over par 152, which has him tied for 20th place. Abrams' day included 23 pars and he played the par 3s in two under par.

Johns shot 79 in the afternoon and sits in a tie for 27th place at 154 after making pars on 26 of 36 holes. He is tied with junior Dave Olexson, who shot 76 and 78. Olexson also made 23 pars on his day and also was one of the leaders on the par 3s, playing those holes at just one over par.

Senior Carlos Kim and sophomore Brendan Worthy are tied for 35th place at 157. Kim shot 77-80 while Worthy opened with a 79 and shot 78 in the afternoon.

Lehigh's sixth competitor is senior Zach Allinson, who shot 164 (85-79) and sits in a tie for 43rd place.

Defending champion Loyola holds a nine stroke lead over Army West Point in the team race. The Greyhounds shot 568 (287-281), while the Black Knights carded rounds of 295 and 282.

Army West Point has the individual leader in Marcus Plunkett who shot two consecutive rounds of two under par 70 and leads Loyola's Matt Oshrine by two strokes.

The Patriot League Championship concludes Sunday with the final 18 holes beginning at 9 a.m. from Seven Oaks Golf Club. Lehigh will play with Colgate and Navy and will go off the tenth tee beginning at 10 a.m.
