BETHLEHEM, Pa. - The Lehigh women's lacrosse team will travel to Washington, D.C. this Sunday for a pivotal Patriot League matchup with American University. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. at the Jacobs Recreational Complex. A win would clinch a second straight Patriot League tournament appearance for the Mountain Hawks.

Lehigh is currently tied for sixth place in the league, while the top four teams have already clinched playoff berths. American is also tied for sixth with a 2-4 Patriot League mark, identical to Lehigh's record.

The Mountain Hawks have won four of their last six games, but are currently in the midst of a two-game losing streak. Lehigh lost league matches at home versus league powers Boston University and Navy. The Mountain Hawks gave up just eight goals in both games against some high-powered offensive units, but Lehigh was unable to find enough offense.

Although Lehigh edged Navy in groundballs 17-12, the Hawks weren't able to turn that edge into goals at the other end. Freshman Kierstyn Voiro had a career high five groundballs, while senior Michelle Abramczyk added four. Senior Kelly Scott and junior Kendall Garden each had two caused turnovers. Garden now leads the Patriot League in caused turnovers per game at 1.93 per contest (27 in 14 games). Sophomore Allison LaBeau scored two of Lehigh's three goals to take her season total to 29, good for second on the team.

American is currently 4-10 on the season and 2-4 in the league. The Eagles have dropped five of their last seven and are fighting for a potential Patriot League tournament berth as well. Junior attacker Jessica Wojciechowski leads the Eagles in points with 35, 32 of which are goals. Junior midfielder Olivia Mangan has contributed 14 goals and 15 assists, good for 29 points. Freshman goalie Rose Redfoot has seen most of the action between the pipes and has a goals against average of 11.32 and a save percentage of 39.5. Junior Terese Buechli leads the team with 13 caused turnovers while Redfoot owns a team-leading 31 groundballs.

Last season's matchup saw the Mountain Hawks take a 10-6 final at the Ulrich Sports Complex.  Sophomore Krista Dampman scored a career-high five goals in that game, and LaBeau added four points behind three goals and an assist. Lehigh came back in the second half after being down 5-3 at halftime. An offensive outburst in the second half saw the Mountain Hawks take the win. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 12-5. Last season marked Lehigh's first win over American since 2011.

Lehigh needs just a win to clinch a Patriot League Tournament berth while the Eagles need a win coupled with a Holy Cross win at Navy (on Saturday) to clinch a playoff spot.

After Sunday's game, Lehigh will travel to Holy Cross next Friday (Apr. 17) for the final game of the regular season.
