BETHLEHEM, Pa. - Following a long layoff due to Friday's game at Bucknell being postponed, the Lehigh women's lacrosse team heads to Jacksonville to face the Dolphins on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The game will be broadcast live online via ESPN3. This marks the first-ever meeting between the two schools as Jacksonville is in just its sixth year of existence.
Â
The Mountain Hawks were last in action on Saturday, Feb. 28, a 5-4 loss against Fairfield. The defenses stole the show and Lehigh's offense struggled to get much going after taking an early 4-1 lead. The Mountain Hawks' defense was the story of that game, and all homestand, allowing seven goals or fewer for a third-straight game. The Mountain Hawks allowed just two goals to UC Davis, seven to Niagara then five to Fairfield. One of those defenders, senior Lauren Willcox, was honored with Patriot League Defensive Player of the Week laurels after a career-high five caused turnovers against the Stags.
Â
Through four games, sophomore Allison LaBeau leads the team with 12 points (eight goals, four assists). Senior Carli Sukonik has 10 points (eight goals, two assists) and junior Kendall Garden owns seven (five goals, two assists). Garden also has eight groundballs and a team-high 12 caused turnovers.
Â
Jacksonville is 5-1 so far this season. After a season-opening loss to Florida, the Dolphins have responded with wins over Central Connecticut State, Elon, San Diego State, Coastal Carolina and La Salle. A Jacksonville program, which played its first season in 2010, has enjoyed tremendous success early in its existence, including a 14-6 record and NCAA Tournament berth in 2014. It marked the Dolphins' second straight NCAA Tournament. Jacksonville has averaged 15.67 goals per game this season, led by Danielle Dellarocca and her 26 points (16 goals, 10 assists). Five others have reached double figures, including Rachel Aus (11 goals, three assists) and Holly Ventimiglia (10 goals, four assists) with 14 points apiece. Seniors Sam Bauer and Brittney Orashen each have a team-leading 11 caused turnovers while Erika Brager leads the way with 23 groundballs. Asia Moore has seen the majority of action in goal, owning a 9.16 GAA and .452 save percentage.
