
Mountain Hawks wrap up homestand vs. Fairfield on Saturday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. - After picking up two home wins in strong performances a weekend ago, Lehigh women's lacrosse will host Fairfield this Saturday at the Ulrich Sports Complex. Opening draw is set for 1 p.m. The Mountain Hawks currently sit at 2-1 with victories against UC Davis and Niagara, and its only loss to tenth-ranked Penn State.
Senior attacker Carli Sukonik has been stellar through three games for Lehigh. She scored four goals against UC Davis last Friday to eclipse 100-career goals. Sukonik went on to notch three goals and one assist against Niagara two days later to earn Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career. Junior Kendall Garden has also paced the Lehigh attack, scoring a hat trick against Niagara and netting another goal against UC Davis. Defensively, she owns a team-high 10 caused turnovers along with six groundballs (tied for third on the team). Both Garden and sophomore Lauren Beausoleil earned honorable mention laurels on Monday's Patriot League weekly honor roll.
Also 2-1, Fairfield is coming off of a close 11-10 win vs Big Ten opponent Rutgers. The Stags were able to break a late 9-9 deadlock with two straight goals as they held on for the close win. Fairfield also defeated Sacred Heart in its season opener, but then lost to Hofstra in the next game. Julieanne Mascera (five goals, two assists) and Alex Fehmel (four goals, three assists) are tied for the team lead in scoring with seven points apiece. Maeve Quinn has six points (five goals, one assist) while Jamie Leone (four goals, one assist) has five. Meghan Reda leads the team in groundballs (10), draw controls (8) and caused turnovers (5).
Last season, the Mountain Hawks traveled to Fairfield and lost a tight 7-5 final. Lehigh took a 4-1 advantage into the second half but, relinquished its lead as the Stags outscored them 6-1 in the second half to snatch the victory. Sukonik and Allison LaBeau scored two goals apiece for Lehigh. That Fairfield win evened the all-time series at 6-6.
Following Saturday's game, Lehigh hits the road for two straight games beginning its Patriot League opener at Bucknell next Friday (Mar. 6) at 5 p.m.
