Lehigh Invitational begins with 27 holes Friday

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – With anticipated cold temperatures and frost Saturday morning, 27 holes of golf were contested on the opening day of the Lehigh Invitational Friday on the Grace Course at Saucon Valley Country Club.

Twelve teams played the opening 18 holes and the first half of the final 18 holes Friday. Lehigh shot 309 in Friday's first round to sit in fourth place after one round.

The Mountain Hawks sit at 162 through nine holes in the second round and are currently in eighth place with nine holes remaining Saturday.

Freshmen Johnny Hsu and Eamon Marone led the Mountain Hawks in round one with rounds of 76 to tie for ninth place. Both players shot 41 on the front nine in round two and are tied for 21st place at nine over par 117.

Sophomore Billy Johns posted the top front nine score in the second round, a 39, and combined with an opening round 79 sits in a tie for 26th place.

Junior Brendan Worthy is currently tied for 32nd place at 119 (78-41), while freshman Lee Hammerschmidt shot 122 (79-43) through 27 holes and is tied for 41st place.

Lehigh also has three players competing as individuals, led by senior Dave Olexson, who like Hsu and Marone are at nine over par after shooting 77 and 40. Freshman Max Redetzke is tied for 45th place at 123 (81-42), while freshman Tim Wolak sits in 60th place after opening with an 88 and then shooting 42 on the front nine in round two.

Villanova's Lucas Trim and Bucknell's Connor O'Brien share the 27 hole individual lead at even par 108. Both players opened with rounds of two under par 70 and then shot 38 on their first nine holes of round two. Bucknell's John Edler is one stroke back, while Siena's Scott Kim is at three over par. His 33 was the low score of the first half of the second round.

Bucknell opened with a team score of 299 to take the 18-hole team lead by three strokes over St. Peter's.

The Lehigh Invitational will conclude Saturday with the final nine holes from Saucon Valley Country Club. Tee times have been pushed back to 10 a.m. due to the threat of frost.Â
