BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Lehigh men's soccer team will look to start its season 3-0 for the first time since 2008 when the Mountain Hawks head to Stony Brook Friday evening. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. from Stony Brook's Kenneth P. LaValle Stadium.
The Mountain Hawks opened the season with a 2-1 win over Manhattan last Friday before picking up a 2-0 road victory against Monmouth Monday. Lehigh shut down a Monmouth offense that scored five goals in its season-opening contest and didn't allow a single Monmouth shot for the final 70 minutes of the contest. Senior goalkeeper Ciaran Nugent recorded his 15th career shutout while juniors Austin Decker and Jamie Luchini posted second-half goals. Luchini has scored a goal in each of Lehigh's contests so far this season and leads the team with four points.
Stony Brook enters Friday's match with an 0-2 record. The Seawolves opened the season with a 1-0 loss to Central Connecticut State before dropping a 3-0 contest to No. 8 UConn. Redshirt freshman Tom McMahon has played all 180 minutes in goal this season. Although the Seawolves have yet to score a goal this year, they do return last year's top goal scorer in senior Keith McKenna who tallied four a season ago. The Seawolves will be trying to avoid their first 0-3 start since 2006.
Lehigh is 1-2-1 all-time against Stony Brook and suffered a 3-0 defeat to the Seawolves last year.
Following Friday's matchup at Stony Brook, the Mountain Hawks remain on the road next weekend with trips to Rhode Island (Friday Sept. 12) and Brown (Sunday Sept. 14).
